Luther College offers students many opportunities to connect with our natural environment. Whether you want to major in Environmental Studies or simply join a group of fellow students passionate about conservation, the options abound. Here are some of the opportunities you can learn about here:
Luther's location in Decorah's Oneota Valley offers the perfect setting for connecting with nature as well as a unique opportunity for student, faculty, and citizen collaboration on environmental issues. The Luther campus (over 800 acres) and the surrounding area provide a natural laboratory for exploring the relationship between human beings and the physical world as the desire to protect a unique geology and the Upper Iowa River conflict with increased population growth and economic development. Check out the natural areas on campus here as well as taking an ecological tour of campus.
Academically, Luther College offers both a Major and Minor in Environmental Studies with over 30 courses focusing on environmental issues. These classes provide many avenues to learn about our environment and to engage in dialogue about ways of addressing the many environmental challenges we face. Luther’s Environmental Studies Program, with more than a dozen faculty members, challenges students to make connections in the community and to ask important questions about citizenship, ethics and values, and democracy both on and off campus.
